How to: Vanilla Sugar Recipe

Vanilla sugar is a great way to take plain old everyday sugar and give it some extra oomph. It's very common in Europe as opposed to vanilla extract which can be nearly impossible to find. In order to make your own vanilla sugar, begin with whole vanilla pods as mentioned below. Add the skins of scraped out vanilla bean pods to the sugar mixture and infuse even more vanilla flavor to the sugar over time.

Vanilla Sugar
Ingredients
225 grams sugar
2 vanilla bean pods, cut in half
---------------------------------------------------
1 cup sugar
2 vanilla bean pods, cut in half

Directions
1 Place all ingredients in a clean air tight jar and screw on the lid.

2 Let you sugar mixture sit in a  cool, dark place for 2 weeks before using. Your sugar will have a nice vanilla aroma.

3 Vanilla sugar is used in sweet and savory dishes alike but most often in baked goods.
