It's official - I have been selected to be on the Festival jury at Gladmat this year! This means I'll be helping select the best food stand at Gladmat with 2 other food bloggers + other local foodies! What an honor!
So what exactly is Gladmat?
Gladmat is an annual food festival held in Stavanger, Norway. It began in 1998 and has since grown into one of the largest food festival events in Scandinavia with over 250,000 visitors each year (the current population of Norway is just over 5 million). The Festival includes a Wednesday to Saturday traditional food festival program during the last week in July along the Stavanger harbour as well as several food related events throughout the year such as cooking classes for adults and children. Competitions, cooking shows, other entertainment such as singing performances and special events are also included in the 4-day Gladmat Festival program.
When and where is the Gladmat Festival being held this year?
The Festival will be held July 25-28, 2012 along the Stavanger Harbor. Several local restaurants are hosting Gladmat related events, so check with your favorite restaurant or on the Gladmat web site for more information.
Who has participated in Gladmat and what role does it play in the local and national food scene?
International chefs such as Gordon Ramsay and Norwegian chefs such as Ingrid Hovig Espelid & Eyvind Hellstrøm have participated in the Festival. Gladmat is an important ambassador for regional and Norwegian food culture all year-round. It aims to be Norway’s most important meeting place for chefs, food producers, foodies and the media.
