| Inspiration, are you there? |
I finally "bit the bullet" and got in front of the camera. That's right-I've finally posted my first introduction video on my YouTube channel. Before you watch the video, let me tell you a little story about how I finally got over myself and jumped in with both feet.
Reflections
With all of the yet to be disclosed changes going on around here lately, I took sometime this weekend to reflect on the last few months at TFTF. I’m sure you all remember TFTF about a year ago, right? Well of course you don’t-because a year ago I was bearly blogging at all and had nearly given up on blogging all together.
Yes-that’s right, a year ago I was a post away from throwing this whole thing away and quitting blogging all together. Call it lack of inspiration burnout or what have you, but I had simply lost the joy in blogging nearly all together. This time last year I was trying to manage my way through the loss of my grandmother and the impending loss of a close colleague of mine. In addition to all of that, I had pretty heavy workload, what seemed like a mountain of school assignments, more school-related decisions to make and had several personal decisions at my feet. By this time last year, I just felt WORN out and blogging was the last thing on my mind.
Fear
So while reflecting on this time last year in my blogging and non-blogging life over the weekend, I had an epiphany. I realized this weekend that I had been hanging on to several fears about blogging and vlogging. Not so much about blogging though-but I had a LOT of fear about vlogging and my YouTube channel. How would I look on camera? How would I sound on camera? Would I fail at this? Would people think I was silly, stupid, bragging or trying to show off? How much can one say about garlic, knives, salt and avoiding HFCS on YouTube before people stopped watching me?
I had so many thoughts flying around in my head about how I may or may not be perceived should I decide to “go for it 100%”, and face my fears about YouTube and simply get in front of the camera. And then, like usual with me, I decided to put all of those fears to the side and go for it (blame it on years of playing organized sports in my youth and hearing “feel the fear-and do it anyways” 10 hours a day at summer camp). So that is what I decided to do this weekend, I decided to go for it 100% and face my fears about being in front of the camera head on.
So . . . without further adieu, or another moment of delay-here’s me and my first proper introduction on YouTube.
